Chinese Language
The Chinese curriculum of our school is intended to strengthen students’ language ability and provide them with a strong foundation. We would like to inspire our students and help them to develop an attitude of self-learning by cultivating their interests towards language learning and literary accomplishment through a wide range of learning experiences. We would also like our students to have a better understanding towards Chinese culture.
The curriculum of this subject aims at helping the students to express themselves effectively in words, acquire knowledge proactively and build up positive values by bringing in a new mindset and equipping them with self-learning skills and strategies with a balanced focus on reading, writing, listening and speaking.
The “Integrated and Comprehensive Approach in Learning Chinese Characters” and “Read & Write: A Jockey Club Learning Support Network” programmes have been launched for junior students to enrich their vocabulary as well as improve their level of literacy and capability to read and construct words. As for literature, we have integrated “The Collection of Elegance” into our curriculum to deepen students’ understanding of Chinese poetry and allow them to appreciate the aesthetic value of Chinese culture.
Explorative and cooperative elements are incorporated in lessons to allow students to develop their teamwork, problem-solving and using information technology abilities while learning language. Additionally, the application and practice of language by students are the core of this subject. Students are encouraged to make use of their knowledge by participating in internal and external language-related events and competitions – speech festivals, writing competitions, debates, and variety shows to improve their language ability holistically through accumulation of enriched learning experiences.
